A New Approach to Goal Setting

We’ve all been exposed to ideas about goal-setting. Some of us love goals, and ardently set them, pursue them, and complete them. Some of us set some goals, but don’t end up following through. And some of us are so turned off of the idea of goals altogether – due to past failures, perhaps, or in resistance to the idea that we “have to” set them – that we don’t even bother.

Motivation: How do I get back on that “proverbial” horse?

There is a great analogy used by author and lecturer Wayne Dyer that goes something like this: the wake of a boat does not control it’s current direction. In other words, where I have been does not in any way determine the direction that I choose to head in this moment. To blame past behavior for my current decisions is about as insane as saying that the wake of a boat controls which way the boat is headed.

Benefits of the TRX

We secured a TRX on one of the beams in our North Vancouver store and I have now worked out with it twice. I did a chest workout and a back workout, much to the surprise of many little muscles that I did not know existed. I did fairly simple motions, such as chest press, fly’s, [...]

The Value of a Workout Partner? Priceless.

We all know that when it comes to exercise, motivation is one of the core elements that one must possess in order to achieve any degree of success. Of course, other elements are important – a fitness and nutrition plan, access to equipment, Lululemon pants; but without motivation, everything falls by the wayside. It is the foundation, without which the house of health you are building will sink. It pulls you out of your comfy, cozy bed at 7:30am to go for a run in the bitter cold; it allows you to push through that 10th rep as your muscles are trembling and burning with fatigue; and it pushes you to start a fitness routine when you are out of shape and have so far to go. As Viktor Frankl said, “those who have a ‘why’…can bear with almost any ‘how’”.
