The Couch Potato Syndrome

Let’s face it, you know you sit way too much. You sit while you drive to work, you sit 9 to 5 at work, you sit while you drive back from work, you sit at the dinner table during supper, and then you sit for a couple more hours on the couch watching TV, and then you go to bed, wake up tomorrow morning and start everything over again. Even if you don’t watch TV, you’re probably sitting in front of the tube playing video games or in front of the computer. Think about it, how much of your time do you think is done sitting? 70%, 80%? Let’s just say it’s too much. According to the American Council of Exercise, the typical American adult watches over 151 hours of television per month, 27 hours on the internet, and 7 hours watching time-shifted television (Tivo, DVR). It is no wonder that there is an ever increasing rate of obesity in North America.
