Stuck in a Rut

“If you do what you have always done, you will get what you always got.”

Are you doing the same workout day in and day out and getting bored or wondering why you have hit a plateau? It’s time to “spank the system”!

There are many elements to fitness, including; muscle strength and endurance, cardiovascular, flexibility, balance and agility. Here are some ideas to shake things up and bring some fun and challenge back into your workouts.

Muscle Work:

* Change the resistance load to either heavier or lighter than what you are used to. eg; if you have always been doing 15 reps, try a heavier load that fatigues you by 10 reps and you will hit a different set of muscle fiber types.

* Change the type of exercises that you do or change equipment and you will fire your muscles in a new fiber recruitment pattern.

* Change the order of muscle groups you train, eg; if you always start with lower body, start with your upper body muscles first and you will change the order of when your muscles fatigue.

* If you split up your muscle groups, try full body circuit training every other day to build endurance. Better yet, do three completely different full body circuits each week, kind of like never wearing the same outfit twice.

Speaking of never wearing the same outfit twice in a week, I’m sure you change your socks after every workout, so how about changing your workout every time as well!

My next postings will give you some ways to get more creative with your cardio, flexibility and balance…
